SSgt Adam L. Perkins was killed in action while performing actions on an IED within the MEF AO. SSgt Perkins is survived by his wife Ignacia Perkins and his 9 month old son Micah. SSgt Perkins was a solid Marine and EOD Tech, he never failed to give his absolute best at everything he did.
On 17 May 2010 While MSgt MendozaValencia and I (along with the MEF, MLG, GCE & ACE CG's and approx 500 Marines, Sailors, soldiers & Coalition Forces were placing SSgt Perkins on the Angel Flight home, we received word that SSgt Lyon and SSgt Roberts was struck by an IED and were in route to Bastion Surgical. They both survived the IED blast, but SSgt Lyon received the worst of the blast. He lost both legs above the knee's and his right hand was initially thought to be too bad to save. After the initial surgery the Doc's were able to keep his hand and depending on how the bones heal he might be able to keep his right hand. SSgt Lyon was MedEvac'ed out of the MEF AO this morning (18 May 2010). SSgt Roberts was feet away from SSgt Lyon when the blast occurred, he received good amount of secondary frag to the face, right arm and right armpit/upper ribcage area.thankfully all minor wounds. His Oakley's saved his eyes and vision. SSgt Roberts will be out of Bastion Surgical this afternoon and placed in a recovery tent until they scrub out his wounds again. Then he should be able to return to the EOD Compound to further heal and work. |
