Petty Officer Second Class Tyler John Trahan

Petty Officer 2nd Class Tyler J. Trahan, 22, of East Freetown, Mass., died

Thursday while conducting combat operations in Fallujah, Iraq. He was  assigned to the

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit Twelve in Norfolk and was

temporarily working with a Virginia Beach-based SEAL team, the Department

of Defense said.

 

Trahan worked in explosive ordnance disposal and was assigned to Norfolk

since December 2007.

 

"Petty Officer Tyler Trahan was an exemplary leader and exceptional EOD

technician. Our hearts go out to his family and friends in this very

difficult time," Cmdr. Joseph Polanin, commanding officer of Explosive

Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Twelve, said in a news release. "He was a

great warrior, teammate and friend to so many. His patriotic spirit will

live on in each of us. His supreme sacrifice will not be in vain."

 

 

Trahan's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat

"V" (Valor) Distinguishing Device, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon,  National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and Global War on

Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, according to the Naval Special Warfare

Public Affairs Office in Norfolk.
